The appliqué thangka studio at Norbulingka was launched under the inspiration of Thangka Painting Master, Themba Chophel. He was uniquely equipped to instigate and guide the work, because, besides his encyclopaedic knowledge of Tibetan iconography, he had studied in Tibet with both the 13th Dalai Lama’s Master Tailor and a Master Painter.
